Custom Mouthguards

From first-time footy players to seasoned professionals, protecting your smile should be as essential as lacing up your shoes. A custom-fitted mouthguard offers more than just peace of mind. It offers effective protection that keeps your mouth safe and ensures you are playing at your best.

While boil-and-bite mouthguards from the chemist are readily available, they rarely fit well or offer proper protection. Many find them bulky, uncomfortable, or difficult to keep in place, which means they often go unworn. A custom mouthguard made by a professional is designed specifically for your teeth and jaw. It fits snugly, allowing you to talk, breathe, and play comfortably without distraction.

A poorly fitted mouthguard won't absorb the impact of the inevitable knocks and collisions of contact sports. Custom mouthguards help to cushion the force, reducing the risk of serious dental injuries like broken or dislodged teeth, lip damage, or jaw trauma. They even offer some protection against concussions by stabilising the jaw during impact! Custom mouthguards are durable, made of multi-layered, professional-grade materials designed to resist wear and tear, ensuring they last longer than off-the-shelf mouthguards.

How Long Do Mouthguards Last?

Children's mouthguards will need to be replaced periodically, as the child's mouth grows and changes. Adult mouthguard will rarely need to be replaced, unless there is serious wear and tear. It will be time for a new mouthguard if:

  • Your (or your child's) teeth have shifted noticeably

  • You have had orthodontic treatment

  • The mouthguard is worn out or no longer fits properly

Your regular dental check-up appointments are a great opportunity to have your mouthguard reviewed for fit and function.

Mouthguard Maintenance

To ensure your mouthguard lasts for as long as possible, regular care and maintenance is essential. Here are a few simple steps to help it last:

  • Rinse after each use with cold water

  • Never use hot water, as it can make the mouthguard warp

  • Gently brush with a soft toothbrush and mild soap

  • Always dry completely before storing, to prevent the growth of bacteria

  • Keep away from heat sources like car dashboards
